Description

Plumeria 'Polynesian Sunset'

Plumeria 'Polynesian Sunset' is a breathtaking multicolored rainbow variety known for its magnificent 3-inch flowers. Its blooms showcase a vibrant mix of pink, yellow, orange, and white, often resembling the hues of a tropical sunset. A unique feature is the occasional thin white streak that appears randomly through a petal, adding to its charm and character.

The petals, with their matte, velvety texture, open in a deep, almost fluorescent coral shade and gradually fade to a spectrum of pinks, peaches, and gold, especially when provided some shade. This variety blooms exceptionally well in cooler weather and is highly sensitive to heat, which enhances its dynamic color shifts. Its blooms also emit a delightful gardenia-like fragrance, making it a sensory delight.

'Polynesian Sunset' is a semi-tall tree with a medium growth habit, capable of blooming prolifically with vibrant and varied colors. The tree roots easily and is well-suited for both grafting and propagation. It tends to set seed, making it a great choice for hybridizers. Despite its colorful vibrancy in shade, the blooms may fade under full sun but still retain a unique beauty.

In summary, Plumeria 'Polynesian Sunset' is an exceptional, heat-sensitive variety with multicolored blooms, a sweet gardenia scent, and a semi-tall growth habit. Its ability to root easily and thrive in cooler weather makes it a standout in any plumeria collection.

    Polynesian Sunset

Posted by Carol on Aug 19, 2024

Mine just bloomed first time last week! Thrilled with the flowers. Received the plant in 2020, but in New England my plumies have a short season. 4 flowers open together - a gorgeous bunch, and more buds forming! The blooms here are like the second picture, leaves rounded, and that deep pink almost lilac color. Does look like a sunset! I can't smell the gardenia, to me more like a weak plumeria type smell, but nice. Thank you!
