Plumeria 'Bill Moragne, Sr.'
Plumeria 'Bill Moragne, Sr.' (PSA Reg #156), also known as William Moragne, Bill Moragne, Sr., is a striking variety named in honor of Bill Moragne, Sr., who successfully cross-pollinated Daisy Wilcox and Scott Pratt to create this remarkable cultivar. Known for its beautiful pink blooms, strong grape fragrance, and large inflorescences, this variety is a standout in any garden or collection.
The flowers of 'Bill Moragne, Sr.' measure approximately 4 inches and feature elliptical petals that are moderately overlapped with upturned inner edges. The petals are characterized by heavy dark pink veins and a smooth gradient from dark pink to white, giving them a soft yet vibrant appearance. On the reverse side, red-purple stripes enhance the color contrast, while a yellow eye adds a bright focal point. The strong grape fragrance of this variety adds to its sensory appeal, making it a highly aromatic Plumeria.
The tree has a medium growth habit, with thick branches that contribute to its robust structure. The branching of 'Bill Moragne, Sr.' is below average, but the large inflorescences and abundant blooms more than make up for this trait. It is extremely difficult to root, so grafting is recommended for successful propagation. The inflorescences of this variety are large, creating a stunning floral display. The leaves are medium green with acuminate tips, adding a lush backdrop to the vibrant blooms.
In summary, Plumeria 'Bill Moragne, Sr.' is a beautiful and aromatic variety with large, pink blooms, a strong grape fragrance, and a robust growth habit. Its large inflorescences and historical significance make it a cherished addition to any collection.
