Plumeria 'Mardi Gras'

Plumeria 'Mardi Gras' (PSA Registration #226) is a celebrated variety known for its vibrant rainbow-colored blooms, delightful fragrance, and compact growth habit. Developed by Elizabeth Thornton, it is one of her most showy and iconic creations, even earning a place on the Plumeria Society of America, Inc.'s logo.

The flowers of 'Mardi Gras' measure approximately 3 inches in diameter and feature wide, rounded petals with pointed tips. The petals are highly overlapping, creating a lush and full appearance. The blooms display a striking rainbow of orange and pink hues, accented by red bands on both the front and back of the petals. This variety performs best in hot weather, where its vibrant colors are at their peak. The blooms also have excellent keeping quality, ensuring their beauty lasts.

The fragrance of 'Mardi Gras' is sweet and peachy, making it a favorite among Plumeria enthusiasts. The tree has a compact growth habit, making it suitable for smaller spaces or container planting. Known as a great bloomer, it consistently produces abundant flowers throughout the growing season. Additionally, 'Mardi Gras' is known to produce seedpods, offering opportunities for propagation and hybridization.

In summary, Plumeria 'Mardi Gras' is a stunning and fragrant variety with rainbow-colored blooms, a peachy scent, and a compact growth habit. Its vibrant appearance and historical significance make it a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts.

Would love to give it a 5 but we had two hurricanes through here in just a few weeks and they took it and look good. I think that if the storms had not messed with them the way it did they would be stellar looking 5's
