Plumeria 'Mele Pa Bowman'

Plumeria 'Mele Pa Bowman' (PSA Reg #114), also known as Evergreen Singapore Yellow and Yellow Obtusa, is a stunning cross between Singapore Evergreen White and Celadine. This cultivar is highly prized for its gorgeous evergreen foliage, vibrant yellow flowers, and classic plumeria fragrance, making it one of the most desirable Plumerias for collectors and gardeners.

The 3.5-inch flowers of 'Mele Pa Bowman' are a vibrant yellow with white edges, featuring obovate petals with rounded, heart-like tips. The petals are medium in texture and have no overlap, giving the blooms a clean and elegant appearance. Known for its strong citrus-like fragrance, reminiscent of classic Singapore, this variety is celebrated for its captivating scent, though its keeping quality is moderate.

The tree exhibits a medium growth habit and boasts shiny, dark green foliage that remains evergreen, adding year-round beauty to the garden. It is drought-tolerant and one of the easiest Plumerias to grow and flower, making it a reliable choice for gardeners. 'Mele Pa Bowman' is also a prolific bloomer, consistently producing an abundance of highly fragrant flowers.

This variety's history adds to its allure. Discovered in the 1980s, the flower was spotted by plant collector Donald Angus, who noted its resemblance to a Singapore Yellow. Upon further investigation, it was identified as a seedling resulting from a cross between Singapore Evergreen White and Celadine, blending the best traits of both parents.

In summary, Plumeria 'Mele Pa Bowman' is a remarkable variety with vibrant yellow blooms, shiny evergreen foliage, and a strong citrus fragrance. Its ease of growth, historical significance, and striking appearance make it a must-have for any Plumeria enthusiast.
