Plumeria 'Pu’u Kahea'

Plumeria 'Pu’u Kahea', also known as O'Sullivan and Fiesta, is a historic and striking variety that stands out for its brilliant coloration, unique fragrance, and balanced growth habit. Registered as PSA #144, it is one of the original 51 cultivars recognized by the Plumeria Society of America, cementing its place as a classic among Plumerias.

The flowers of 'Pu’u Kahea' measure between 4 to 4.5 inches and showcase a vibrant yellow base with strong red bands that appear prominently on both the front and back of the petals. As the blooms age, the red transitions to a wine or deep pink hue, adding depth to their luminous appearance. The petals are broad and slightly overlapping, creating a full and elegant flower. Its fragrance evolves from mild to a tangy lemon scent, enhancing its charm.

This variety has a medium growth habit with an upright structure and reliable branching, often forming divisions of three. Both rooted plumerias are budding and coming out of dormancy. Very healthy.

When Puu Kahea was delivered, I was surprised how large the plant was. It appeared that it had already been blooming this year. Can't wait until next year for it to bloom for me.
